We 4 Water

This year, the McMath Interact Club International Project focused on raising money to help fund a water filtration system for our district sponsored school in Lai Gow, India by hosting a massive school-wide coin drive. Our goal was to acquire a toonie from every McMath student and staff member during February. McMath students were informed that  “only 5% of elementary schools in rural Rajasthan, India have water and sanitation” so access to clean water is a luxury in Lai Gow ~ something which we totally take for granted. As a further incentive for the TOONIE DRIVE, for every $2 donation McMath students were given an entry ballot for a chance to win prizes such as ~ two gift baskets from Save On Foods, a Best Buy gift card, boxes of tea from Starbucks, gift certificate from Lacquer Beauty Bar in Steveston, a jacket from Ice Level Sports, even CANUCKS TICKETS (thank you Mr. LaPorte ~ a McMath parent !)
Many thanks to the teacher sponsor of this project, Ms. Maryanne Larson (for her support and encouragement), Matt Hoogveld and Madison McCord (for their project leadership), the Steveston Rotary (for their coin donations), to our local community business partners who donated prizes, and to the many Interact Club members who organized, coordinated, collected, and counted $2,225.00 worth of loose change.
