C.A.R.E.

C.A.R.E, the Cancer Awareness Reaching Everyone club, was one of the three local projects hosted by INTERACT this year. We are a group focused on bringing about cancer awareness in our school and community. While most people are aware of the damage and pain cancer can bring to a family, they either do not know enough to help or do not know how. That is why educating and giving accessible ways to help are very important things. C.A.R.E hosted two major events this year: the CARE item drive and Cancer Awareness week. The former was held back in January. Our goal was to raise gently used items for children at BC Children’s hospital. It was a great success and we ended up with enough toys, books, games, and more to fill an entire car. More recently, April 26th to 29th, we held Cancer Awareness week. Each day had a theme and a color: Green for Green tea and healthy eating, Yellow for Sun awareness, Grey for Anti-Smoking, and Orange for Hugs and support. Throughout the week, members of the club set up a table during the lunch hour to distribute pamphlets and fun goodies like buttons, stickers, bookmarks, and tattoos. Many thanks to everyone at McMath who made this project possible. Special thanks goes out to our dedicated C.A.R.E bears, our amazing teacher sponsor Mrs. Ritchie, and Mary Chen and Marcus Prasad who co-chaired the club.

CARE thanks you for supporting our Cancer Awareness week at McMath.
